It's spring at Muddy Creek and the magnolia trees are blooming! Come join me for this great nature walk through this restored wetland that many people have never even heard about. Last time I was there the beaver's had blocked up the creek and you could see the water beds clearly and animal tracks throughout. Many wildflowers are blooming and baby birds are hatching. It is 2.3 miles and is an easy fun walk that is well marked, includes many boardwalks, and multiple signs about the restoration project and the habitats there. Come see this hidden treasure that is different every time you walk through it. One of Mobile's Hidden Treasures!
Strollers can manage this walk, there are a few rough areas. I do not recommend a umbrella stroller however.
MuddyCreek Wetlands Directions:
...From the Tillman’s Corner or Theodore Dawes Exit from I-10 go west on Government Blvd/Hwy 90 to Bellingrath Road. You will turn left onto Bellingrath Road. There is a huge bill board that says turn here! You will travel about 2 miles to Industrial Road. There is a sign several yards before Industrial Road intersection but there is no light or signs to indicate that it is Industrial Road. There is a large green field to the left right before the turn. You will turn left on Industrial Road and travel approximately 1 mile. MuddyCreek Wetlands are on the left. Again, there is no sign on the road. The parking lot is roped off with yellow posts.
If you are coming from West Mobile, travel south down Schillinger Road until it turns into Theodore-Dawes Rd. Make a right at the light onto the Government Blvd./Hwy 90 going west. You will travel about a half mile until you reach Bellingrath Road. Turn left at the huge sign that says turn here! You will travel about 2 miles to Industrial Road. There is a sign several yards before Industrial Road but there is no light or signs to indicate that it is Industrial Road. There is a large green field to the left right before you turn. You will turn left on Industrial Road and travel approximately 1 mile. MuddyCreek Wetlands are on the left. Again, there is no sign on the road. The parking lot is roped of with yellow posts.
I will be in the parking lot of the Theodore Library off Government Blvd. in a light colored Honda Odyssey at 8:15 am if you would like to follow me to Muddy Creek. I will leave promptly at 8:30. If you get lost or have any questions feel free to call me, Kim at 251-689-2985.
Things you might need:
Bring water and snacks. This is a 2 mile walk through the woods and you will definitely need it. Sunscreen and hat will not be something you regret.
Do not wear open toed shoes, flip flops, etc.
Bug Spray may be needed.
Don't forget your camera!
There are no restrooms - I do stop though at certain spots for some potty breaks for those who can't wait. This is truly a nature walk.
