I am currently on the journey of homeschooling my first teen. I have found that without sports (played football, basketball and baseball until he aged out of the parks) that he gets more involved with other activities. He is in Boy Scouts, Jr. Civitan, Generation Joshua and church activities.

Lesa, I know that Covenant Christian allows homeschoolers to play up to 8th grade. Do you know of any other schools that allow this?

He is in the 10th grade and there are no schools in Mobile that would allow him to play football. Any school that is a member of the AHSAA, which is all in Mobile, are not allowed to let homeschools play with their team, practice with their team, play against their team, or skirmish against their team.
That is why we have been trying to pass the Equal Access bill for the last 6 year. Our best shot is right now, but the Senate Education Committee has not voted (that I've heard) on the bill yet.
Any middle school has the choice if they want to accept us or not. Since they are not members of the AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association).

Yeah, I am aware. It is the Tim Tebow Law. Rusty Glover is our area house rep and he is all for it and pushing hard. They have not come to a yes yet but he said that there has only been 1 person for it each year but this year there are 4, I think. We talked about this a little when we took a paging trip a few weeks ago to the capitol.
BTW we are very interested in the Generation Joshua Club, I just need to get more info on what is required from us to make sure we do not over extend ourselves.

At this point the requirements are just what is on their website: - 11 to 19 years old
- member of Generation Joshua ($25 for 2 years if member of HSLDA or $35 if not)
- once a month meetings (we will be losing one of our officers to graduation/wedding soon so we could use some members who are really interested in being involved.
Coming up on elections we would want a little more involvement for voters registration drives and campaign work. We barely missed being sent out with the SAT groups for the last presidential election.
