I'm always on the look out for recommended books geared towards boys. Even though I love classic literature, I haven't yet pushed it too much on my boys because I'm still trying to re-instill that love of reading in them. (Accelerated Reader in their public schools just about killed their desire to read.)
I thought it would be great to share here some of the books we've found that appeal to boys. Here's a few I've found so far...
Diary of a Wimpy Kid series (this got both of my boys hooked back into reading)
Champions of the Wilderness (great nonfiction for boys interested in conservation)
Wings by Loizeaux, William (sweet story about a boy adopting an abandoned baby bird.)
The Tarantula in My Purse by Jean Craighead George (a memoir of a family who raised all sorts of different wild animals)
We're about to start reading some of the Hank Zipzer series. They're supposed to be similar to the Wimpy Kid series. I'll post back after we see how those go over.

Thank you so much for these recommendations! My nephew (9yrs old) loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and I think it's HUGE for kids around that age. My 6yr old son enjoys the Cam Jenson chapter books (very short mysteries) and any books about StarWars. His favorite non-fictions are about sea creatures, birds and reptiles. The scarier, more unusual the animal the better!

My youngest enjoyed the Cam Jensen stories too. Both of mine liked the Junie B. Jones stories in 1st and 2nd grade too.

Kenny has dyslexia and disgraphia so reading is not something he enjoys. But I've been reading to him which has helped a lot with his own reading. He seems to be following in his brother's footsteps but in the opposite direction.
We have read all the Harry Potter books and are about to finish King Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia. Our next series will be the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.
This is the series that got Dustin hooked reading when he was 12. He could not find anything he was interested in before that.
